Teeth whitening

Teeth darken over time from coffee, tea, smoking and simply getting older. Professional whitening uses a peroxide gel that releases oxygen into the enamel and breaks down the stains inside it. Before whitening, your dentist checks your teeth and gums, because cavities, worn enamel or receding gums need attention first. A scale and polish beforehand removes surface stain, so the gel can work evenly and the result is easier to judge.

We offer two approaches, and many patients combine them. In-clinic whitening takes about 90 minutes: we protect your gums, apply a stronger gel in short cycles and usually see a clear change in one visit. Take-home whitening uses custom trays made from a scan of your teeth and a lower-strength gel that you wear for a set time each day, usually over one to two weeks. The trays also let you top up the result later.

Some temporary sensitivity is common, usually for a day or two. We reduce it with a desensitising gel, shorter sessions or a lower concentration if your teeth are already sensitive. It is important to know what whitening cannot change. Crowns, veneers, bonding and fillings keep their original colour, so visible restorations at the front may need replacing afterwards to match. Deep grey staining, such as from tetracycline, may not respond well, and veneers can be a better option.

Benefits

Supervised by a dentist

Your teeth and gums are checked first, your gums are protected during treatment and the gel strength is chosen for you. This makes whitening safer and the result more predictable.

Visible change in one visit

In-clinic whitening usually lightens teeth by several shades in about 90 minutes, which helps before a wedding, an important event or a new job.

Custom trays for home

Trays made from a scan of your teeth hold the gel evenly and away from your gums. You can use them to extend the result or top it up later.

Care for sensitive teeth

We adjust gel strength, timing and desensitising treatment to suit your teeth. Any sensitivity is usually mild and settles within a day or two.

How treatment works

  1. Check-up and shade record

Your dentist examines your teeth and gums, checks existing fillings and crowns, and records your starting shade with a photo. A scale and polish may be advised first.

  2. In-clinic session

We protect your lips and gums, apply the whitening gel in timed cycles and check your teeth between cycles. The session takes about 90 minutes in total.

  3. Take-home trays

If you are combining treatments, we scan your teeth for custom trays and show you how much gel to use, for how long each day and how to keep the trays clean.

  4. Aftercare

For 48 hours, avoid coffee, tea, red sauces and smoking while the enamel settles. Use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth if needed and book a review to compare your new shade.

Is it right for you?

  • Adults with healthy teeth and gums whose teeth have yellowed with time or diet
  • Coffee and tea drinkers who want to lift both surface and deeper stains
  • Patients planning veneers or bonding who want a brighter base shade first
  • Anyone preparing for a wedding, an event or new photos who wants a fresher smile

Frequently asked questions

How much does teeth whitening cost in Dubai?

In-clinic whitening at Veloradent starts from AED 1,200. At the consultation, your dentist will tell you whether you also need custom take-home trays or a scale and polish first, and what that adds. Whitening is cosmetic, so insurance usually does not cover it. You can split the cost with Tabby or Tamara, or use a 0% instalment plan on selected bank credit cards.

Will whitening make my teeth sensitive?

Some people feel short, sharp twinges or mild sensitivity for a day or two after whitening. It usually settles on its own. We reduce it by adjusting gel strength and timing, applying a desensitising gel and suggesting a toothpaste for sensitive teeth. If your teeth are already sensitive, tell your dentist so the plan can start gently.

Will whitening change the colour of my crowns or fillings?

No. Whitening only works on natural enamel. Crowns, veneers, composite bonding and tooth-coloured fillings keep the colour they had when they were made. If you have visible restorations at the front, your dentist may suggest whitening first and replacing them to match the new shade about two weeks later, once the colour has settled.

How long do whitening results last?

In most cases results last one to three years. How long depends on your habits: coffee, tea, smoking and strongly coloured foods bring stains back faster. Regular hygiene visits and occasional top-ups with your custom trays help keep teeth bright. The result fades gradually rather than suddenly, so a short top-up is usually enough.

Is professional whitening safe for my enamel?

When it is done under a dentist's supervision, whitening is considered safe for healthy enamel. The gel lightens stains inside the tooth rather than removing enamel. We check for cavities, cracks and gum recession first. We usually do not recommend whitening during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and for teenagers we decide case by case.

Not sure which treatment you need?

Book a consultation at either clinic. We examine, take any X-rays needed and give you a written plan with prices before you decide.
