Damon self-ligating braces in Dubai

Damon braces hold the wire with a small sliding door built into each bracket, so no elastic or metal ties are needed. For most patients that means lighter forces, easier cleaning and fewer trips to the clinic.

Damon braces

Damon is a passive self-ligating bracket system. In conventional braces, each bracket holds the archwire with a small elastic or wire tie, and those ties press the wire into the bracket and create friction. A Damon bracket has a built-in sliding clip that closes over the wire instead. The wire can slide more freely, so the orthodontist can use light, heat-activated wires that keep working for longer between visits. The teeth still move through steady, gentle pressure, as with any fixed brace, but with less friction in the system.

The practical differences are what most patients notice. Adjustment visits are usually every eight to ten weeks rather than every four to six, and they tend to be shorter because there are no ties to remove and replace. Without elastic ties there are fewer places for plaque and food to collect, which helps if you find cleaning around braces difficult. Damon brackets come in metal and in a clear version for a more discreet look. Research suggests that total treatment time is broadly similar to conventional braces, so we do not promise a faster result.

Dr. Omar Al Suwaidi plans Damon treatment after a full orthodontic assessment and explains whether self-ligating brackets offer you a real advantage over standard braces or aligners. Damon braces start from AED 13,500 for full treatment, and the final fee depends on how complex your case is and whether you choose metal or clear brackets. Whether any teeth need to be removed depends on your bite and the space available, not on the bracket system. Fewer visits make Damon a practical choice for busy professionals, frequent travellers and students studying abroad.

Benefits

Fewer clinic visits

Light, long-acting wires mean adjustments are usually needed only every eight to ten weeks. That suits people who travel often or find it hard to take time away from work.

Shorter appointments

With no elastic or wire ties to remove and refit, wire changes are quicker. Review visits usually take less chair time, which makes them easier to fit into a working day.

No elastic ties

Elastic ties stain and trap plaque. Damon brackets close with a built-in clip, so there is less around each bracket for food to catch on, and cleaning is simpler.

Light, gentle forces

Low friction lets the orthodontist move teeth with lighter forces. Many patients report less soreness after adjustments, although everyone feels some pressure while the teeth are moving.

How treatment works

  1. Orthodontic assessment

Dr. Omar Al Suwaidi examines your teeth and bite, takes X-rays and photographs, and explains whether Damon braces suit your case better than standard braces or clear aligners.

  2. Bonding the brackets

Metal or clear Damon brackets are bonded to your teeth and the first light wire is clipped into place. The visit usually takes 60–90 minutes and needs no injections.

  3. Reviews every 8–10 weeks

At each review the orthodontist opens the clips, changes the wire when needed and checks progress. Because there are no ties to replace, these visits are generally quick.

  4. Retainers and aftercare

When your teeth reach their planned positions, the brackets are removed and the teeth are polished. Retainers hold the result, and follow-up visits check that everything stays stable.

Frequently asked questions

How much do Damon braces cost?

Damon braces at Veloradent start from AED 13,500 for full treatment. Clear Damon brackets and more complex cases cost more, and your orthodontist confirms the total in writing after your assessment. You can pay in 0% instalments over 3, 6 or 12 months on selected bank credit cards, split payments with Tabby or Tamara, or use direct insurance billing at our Trade Centre clinic if your policy covers orthodontics.

Are Damon braces faster than normal braces?

Not necessarily. Most patients finish in a similar overall time to conventional braces, and studies have not shown a consistent difference in total treatment time. The clearer advantages are fewer and shorter adjustment visits, no elastic ties and light forces. Your orthodontist will give you a realistic estimate for your case rather than a promise based on the bracket type.

What does self-ligating mean?

Ligating means tying the wire to the bracket. Conventional braces use tiny elastic or wire ties for this. Self-ligating brackets, such as Damon, have their own built-in clip or door that closes over the wire. Damon is a passive system, which means the clip holds the wire loosely enough to let it slide, with less friction.

Are Damon braces more comfortable?

Many patients find them comfortable because the wires are light and the brackets have smooth, rounded edges. You will still feel pressure and tenderness for a few days after the braces are fitted and after wire changes, which is normal. Orthodontic wax helps in the first weeks while your cheeks and lips get used to the brackets.

Can I have clear Damon braces?

Yes. Damon brackets are available in a clear version that is less noticeable than metal and does not need coloured ties. Clear brackets are slightly larger and cost more than metal ones. If you want treatment that is almost invisible, your orthodontist may also discuss Invisalign or lingual braces, which are fitted behind the teeth.
